As we conclude the second quarter of 2025, I am proud to share an overview of our progress and the key engagements that have reinforced our commitment to transparency and accountability in Papua New Guinea. This quarter has been particularly significant, marked by both powerful public engagement and strategic advocacy behind the scenes.
Our quarter was defined by the overwhelming success of the 15th Sir Anthony Siaguru Walk Against Corruption. The event was a testament to the community’s unwavering resolve to fight corruption. We were humbled by the participation of 184 teams from across all sectors, and the funds raised are crucial for our operational capacity. This public platform provides a vital space for citizens to voice their collective opposition to corruption, and its success underscores the public’s enduring commitment to a more transparent and accountable PNG.
Beyond the Walk, our team has been active in crucial policy discussions. Following the motion of no confidence, we issued a strong press statement on May 1st, urging the Prime Minister to take decisive action against corruption by sacking non-performing leaders, advancing electoral reforms, and strengthening integrity institutions.
We also continue to play a leading role in the PNG Resource Governance Coalition (PNGRGC), where we were reappointed as President. This position allows us to advocate for critical reforms, particularly the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) standard to help prevent PNG from being grey-listed by the Financial Action Taskforce (FATF).
