Port Moresby, 21 Sunday 2026 — One hundred and ninety (190) registered teams representing corporate bodies, government agencies, schools, civil society organizations, family groups, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) successfully united for the 16th annual Sir Anthony Siaguru Walk Against Corruption (SASWAC). Together, these participants raised K208,000 to directly fund Transparency International PNG’s (TIPNG) ongoing operations and anti-corruption programs.
As TIPNG’s primary annual fundraising event, the Sir Anthony Siaguru Walk Against Corruption plays a critical role in sustaining the long-term, daily work required to strengthen integrity and accountability across Papua New Guinea. The K208,000 raised through team registration fees and community contributions will directly support TIPNG’s year-round practical efforts in:
- Civic Education: Equipping communities with knowledge of their legal rights and avenues to report wrongdoing.
- Youth Engagement: Operating youth empowerment initiatives to instill values of integrity in the next generation.
- Governance Advocacy & Research: Developing evidence-based insights to support legislative reforms and structural accountability.
- Public Awareness: Maintaining active public communication channels to track and report on institutional transparency.
Held under the theme “Integrity & Action Now!”, this year’s event emphasized that combating corruption requires more than public frustration – it requires individual and collective action. Welcoming the participants at the Sir John Guise Stadium, TIPNG Board Director Mr. Richard Kassman reminded the crowd that national transformation must always be anchored by the choices of everyday
people.
“You have turned up not just to walk, but to make it known that integrity matters deeply to you, to your families, and to our beautiful country,” Mr. Kassman said. “Integrity begins with the everyday choices made by citizens, public servants, businesses, and leaders. Action means speaking up, demanding accountability, supporting transparency initiatives, and strengthening institutions that serve the public interest.”
As an independent, non-governmental anti-corruption organization, TIPNG relies entirely on this type of
public and corporate support to maintain its operational reach. Securing localized funding through SASWAC
ensures TIPNG’s absolute ability to speak out objectively on governance issues, entirely free from political
influence or external donor agendas.
