Wednesday 17th December 2025, Port Moresby – In an effort to strengthen partnership with community actors, the Community Coalition Against Corruption (CCAC) convened a session on the 20th November 2025 in Port Moresby. CCAC Members including, Transparency International PNG (TIPNG), the Advancing PNG: Women’s Leadership Network (APNGWLN), Caritas PNG, and the PNG Council of Churches (PNGCC) presented at an information session with women leaders in PNG on Election Integrity.
This session was facilitated through the Improving Political Inclusion and Participation Program (IPIP), delivered under the PNG–Australia Partnership’s PNG Women Lead program in collaboration with the Australian National University and local specialists. IPIP’s overarching goal is to encourage a more inclusive electoral environment that enables women in PNG to overcome the barriers preventing them from participating equally in decision-making and leadership opportunities within their communities.
Participants of the IPIP program were given the opportunity to engage with CCAC partners who collectively shared insights on promoting integrity, accountability, and civic awareness as essential pillars of effective leadership.
“Integrity in leadership is the foundation of our democracy. To ensure that elections deliver credible leaders, our systems must maintain the highest levels of transparency and fairness. CCAC continues to call for three urgent reforms; increase number of electoral commissioners, make the electoral roll public and free to access and lastly timely annual funding in the national budget for the conduct of elections” said Ms. Yvonne Ngutlick, Deputy Director Communications with TIPNG, the CCAC Co-Chair. “We again urge the Government to debate and adopt the Special Parliamentary Committee Report on the 2022 National General Elections so that meaningful reforms can begin.”
Speaking during the session, partners highlighted the importance of maintaining integrity throughout the electoral cycle by both leaders and citizens. The coalition emphasised that good leadership cannot exist without integrity, and that civic awareness is critical to empowering citizens to make informed decisions about the leaders they choose.
The integrity of elections is the foundation of Papua New Guinea’s democracy. Every compromised vote, every act of corruption, and every denial of a citizen’s fundamental right to participate erodes the very foundation of our nation.
As a multi-stakeholder coalition, CCAC brings together civil society, churches, community networks, professional bodies, and advocacy groups to present a unified voice on critical national issues. The coalition’s structure ensures that leading electoral integrity is done through mobilizing community-led action.
The Coalition’s operations, its agenda and priorities are be determined by CCAC members. Any organizations interested in joining the CCAC can contact secretariat on email address, barbra.ruin@transparencypng.org.pg .
