This December 2024 marks the midway point between the 2022 and the 2027 National General Election, Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) is sounding the alarm over the lack of any real action to address the failings of the 2022 National General Election and the many problems experienced in past elections. TIPNG has observed the election process over 2 decades and the verdict is the management and conduct of our elections is severely flawed. PUBLIC BODIES FAIL TO ACCOUNT

TIPNG’s “ACCOUNTABILITY SCORECARD” uses publicly available information from the Report of the Auditor General Part IV*, of which 132 public bodies are recorded. Shockingly, from the list, eighty (80) public bodies had not submitted their 2022 financial statements to be audited, in addition to 183 financial statements for 2021 and prior years have not been submitted to the AGO for audit. This trend reflects a serious lack of financial management of public funds and represents a direct violation of the Public Finances (Management) Act 1995 (as amended), Section 47L provision on Reports and Financial Statements.

Transparency International PNG Raises K240,500 in Successful Sir Anthony Siaguru Walk Against Corruption

The event, which took place in both Lae and Port Moresby, saw the participation of 108 teams from the corporate and government sector, 17 Civil Society Organizations, 69 schools, and 38 families. From the generosity of these participants, TIPNG has raised a K240,500.00 through the walk against corruption. These will enable TIPNG to continue its work in promoting transparency and accountability through its programs.

Arianne Kassman

Arianne Kassman is the Chief Executive Officer of Transparency International Papua New Guinea (TIPNG). She joined TIPNG in 2011, was appointed Executive Director in 2017, and became CEO in 2020. With more than a decade in the anti-corruption sector, Arianne leads initiatives that empower Papua New Guineans to demand integrity, accountability, and good governance, with a strong focus on youth participation and civic education. 

Arianne founded 350 PNG in 2013 and serves as a Director of Sustainable Coastlines PNG. She is also a Council Member of the Institute of National Affairs and a member of the Strategy Reference Group for the Transparency International Global Movement.
